Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Competition announces winners

HAMPTON — A Montreal sculptor won this year's master sand sculpting competition at Hampton Beach Saturday night.

Melineige Beauregard won with the entry "dance of the undefined." She explained that it represented that we are constantly changing and yet some aspects of us stay the same.

The second place winner was Abe Waterman from Prince Edward Island with the sculpture "Get out of the Box." He took second place despite a near collapse due to heavy rain overnight. Waterman was also awarded the "Sculptor's Choice" Award, which represents the admiration of the sculptor's peers.

Third place was given to Karen Fralich of Toronto, Canada for her sculpture, "Tiny Warrior." Fourth place went to David Andrews for "Hands of Fate." Finally, Carl Jara took home fifth place for "I can't get this out of my mind."

For those hitting the beach to see the sculptures, Beauregard's sculpture is the third from the left and depicts a woman holding her arms over her head.

Organizers said the sculptures will stay up until June 28. The area is illuminated for night viewing.

The sand sculpting competition is only one in a busy lineup for the Hampton boardwalk this year. Other events include a talent show, children's festival and the annual Seafood Festival.
